The style of the Duchess of Cambridge is impeccable. Often, she speaks through her clothes and accessories. Moreover, she is the queen of reusing clothes even during her royal duties. Yes, it is undeniable that Kate Middleton takes sustainability seriously but which are her favorite planet-friendly brands and designers? Here is the answer:
#1 Gabriela Hearst
Let’s start with the dress Kate Middleton wore during a meeting with David Attenborough back in September 2020. Our choice is definitely not random as Sir Attenborough is one of the most notable environmental advocates we know. For her meeting with him, the Duchess chose to wear a dress by Gabriela Hearst. Hearst is an Uruguayan designer and also among the most vocal pushers of sustainable business practices in the fashion industry. She is the designer of the eponymous fashion label as well as the creative director of Chloé. The specific dress worn by Kate Middleton is part of Hearst’s pre-fall ’20 line and is made of repurposed denim.
“I’m trying to be really diligent in making sure that nothing we put out there is without purpose. If it’s not repurposed, it has other elements: supporting craftsmanship, [or] a mill that still wants to produce beautiful fabrics.”

#2 Stella McCartney
Another notable ethical designer, whose pieces can often be seen in the wardrobe of the Duchess of Cambridge is Stella McCartney. In her work, McCartney focuses on eco-friendly materials and technologies but most importantly on supply chain transparency. “We strive to create the most beautiful, desirable products with the least impact on our environment,” says the brand’s website. Among Kate Middleton’s favorite dresses by Stella McCartney are: the Raspberry Red dress and the Ridley dress.
#3 Beulah London
Among the Duchess favorite sustainable brands is also Beulah London – an ethical London-based brand founded by Natasha Isaacs and Lavinia Richards in 2009. The label is dedicated on “building a business that empowers vulnerable groups, protects human rights and recognizing that as stewards of the earth, we have a duty to protect the planet.” Some of the items Kate Middleton wore from the brand include the Ahana Blush dress and the Yahvi dress.
#4 Sézane
Sézane is another sustainable label preferred by the Duchess of Cambridge. The French B Corp certified brand prides itself on using ethical practices and materials: “Guided by a desire to create timeless pieces that respect the plant and its people, ¾ of the materials in our current collections are eco-friendly,” says the brand’s official website. Additionally, the label has five of the most reliable certifications in the fashion industry: GOTS, Oeko-Tex, FSC, RWS and RMS. Kate Middleton’s favorite piece by Sézane is the Marguerite shirt.
#5 Faithfull the Brand
Faithfull the Brand is also present in the wardrobe of the Duchess. The Bali-based label was founded in 2012 by designers Sarah-Jane Abrahams and Helle Them-Enger. The brand’s pieces are handmade, hand-dyed and hand-printed by local artisans in Indonesia. The Duchess was seen wearing the brand’s Marie-Louise midi dress back in 2020.
